A virtual assistant business provides support services for many different types of businesses. If this is the type of business you are interested in starting, then be prepared to use the Internet, telephone, fax machine, along with many other various business tools. You will be providing administrative support, customer service support, and many other types of client services. In fact, you may end up providing many other types of services to your clients without ever seeing them face to face.

Steps To Starting Your Business:

Assess The Skills You Need For A Home business

Do you have skills in customer service, marketing, or office administration? Did you know that as a real estate agent you can work from home or work as a graphic designer from home?

Decide Skills That You Will Offer

Some virtual assistants prefer to work in administration and do secretarial type jobs for businesses while others may choose to do jobs that require writing or computer work. You may choose to offer a variety of services but it’s good to choose a specific niche to specialize in.

Get Your Business License

You will have to pay for this license regardless of being home for work. Contact local city hall to find out requirements for your state and county.

Set Up Dedicated Spot In Your Home For Office

You will need supplies and equipment to work from home.

Research Online Tools To Communicate Easier

Use email instant messaging, and internet tools that allow you to conduct meetings over the internet and even show your computer screen to your clients

Prepare Your Business Plan

Begin with details on how you will start, run, and market your business. Include details on how you will expand your business. A solid business plan will help you stay focused on the right path to reach your goals.

Set Your Prices

This will vary depending on the tasks that you will perform for your clients. Reach out to other assistants for help with your pricing.

Make Your Work Schedule

Many virtual assistants work from six to eight hours a day while others choose to work at various times. Due to this being your business, you can choose to work as much or as little as you want.

Create A Website For Your Business

Use it to post articles or ads. You can also use this site for other content related to your business.

Market Your Business

Market your business to businesses as well as family and friends.

**Find a forum to network with other virtual assistants like yourself. This will help you gain clients, boost your success rate, build positive energy, gain referrals, and could even open more opportunities for your business.

  1. This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! Starting a virtual Assistant business is what I am trying to do at the moment, but I can’t find much information on how to start. Is this something you personally do, or is this just an interest? If you would be willing to give me any pointers?!:)

    1. Thank you for your comment and I hope that you continue to enjoy my content. This is something that I personally want to do and have been furthering my knowledge as time goes by. I would tell you, from my experience so far, make sure that you do all your homework before deciding what to offer as an assistant. You should research other assistants and see what your competition is as well. Knowing your competition is going to determine whether you fail or succeed.
